SCHOLARSHIPS 2012-2013


The following website has 10 scholarships available.  Please visit their website at www.studentscholarships.org/2013scholarships.php.  Please check deadlines and qualifications before applying.


New Scholarship opportunity...Sandra Griggs Nursing Scholarship.  Applicants must have 3.0 and free/ reduced lunch status.  Students must be attending a 2 or 4 year college in nursing.  Applications are available in the Guidance office.  Deadline: March 15, 2013


Willie Griggs Technical Scholarship is available.  Applicants must have 3.0 and free/ reduced lunch status.  Students must be attending Wallace Community College.  Applications are available in the Guidance office.  Deadline: March 15, 2013 

 

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Kappa Pi Omega Chapter is offering a college scholarship.  Participants must complete an oratorical contest and address the topic Topic: “The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects an individual's right to possess and bear firearms. In the wake of recent shootings at schools, movie theaters, etc, should the amendment be revised?” The essay must contain a minimum of 750 words, you must deliver the essay in a span of 5 to 10 minutes.  Three winners will be selected. The deadline for notification of participation is APRIL 12, 2013.  If you have questions contact Barbara Cole at 334-894-2325. You can pick up an application in Guidance.


Tyndall Federal Credit Union Scholarships are now available. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, the parent/legal guardian and/or the applicant must be a Tyndall Federal Credit Union Member, in good standing. This scholarship is open only to high school seniors (grade 12), who have an annual household income of $100,000 or less. Only one (1) entry per applicant will be considered.. Only one (1) entry per applicant will be considered. Applications can be picked up in the Guidance Office. Completed applications for the 2013 Tyndall Scholarships will be accepted from January 11, 2013 through March 15, 2013.Return the completed application and all requested materials to Tyndall Federal Credit Union by mailing to:

The Wendy's School Heisman Award Program is now accepting applications from both male and female students who exhibit excellence in the classroom, on the field and within their communities. Eligibility for application is limited exclusively to men and women entering their senior year of high school, have a "B" or higher GPA, and participate in at least one of 33 sports sanctioned by the National Federation of State High Schools. Auburn University and The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering have the John and Gail Watson Scholarship available. Seniors interested in this engineering scholarship should can contact dewbeja@auburn.edu.  Students need to meet the following requirements: 27 ACT score or SAT score of 1220, high school GPA of 3.0, Majoring in Engineering, complete FAFSA by March 1, 2013, attend high school in Houston, Dale, Henry, or Coffee County.  DEADLINE: December 1, 2012


The Alabama Municipal Electric Authority is sponsoring annual academic and technical scholarships to students that receive their home utilities from the City of Dothan Utilities Department. Wiregrass Electric Cooperative students are not eligible for these scholarships. Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce its offering of ten $1,000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors in the AACFCU service area.  Additional application forms and instructions are available at any AAFCU location or can be found on-line at www.aacfcu.com .  DEADLINE: March 22, 2013


The University of Alabama is now accepting scholarship applications at (http://mybama.us.edu/).  Click on the "academics" tab and find the application under the Admissions section.  A completed admissions application will need to be submitted to the University of Alabama BEFORE completing the scholarship application. Tyndall Federal Credit Union Scholarships are now available. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation scholarship program is now accepting applications on-line. Of the 250 Scholars designated, 50 students will continue to receive awards of $20,000 and 200 students, who formally received $4,000, will now receive $10,000. Our Family for Families First is a private charitable foundation committed to the support of military families in pursuit of higher education. The foundation will award at least ten $40,000 scholarships each year to deserving high school students whose parent(s) is currently stationed at Forts Meade, Bragg, Polk, Rucker, or Riley. The Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship is available to seniors at http://www.jimmyranefoundation.org/ Applicants are chosen based on several criteria including academics, school/community involvement and financial need. Applications will be available


The Gates Millennium Scholars program will select one thousand students this year as Gates Millennium Scholars. The scholarship supports the cost of attendance and can be renewed each year throughout the Scholars undergraduate degree and onto graduate school for those continuing Scholars who choose one of six graduate majors: engineering, education, library science, mathematics, public health and science. Students are eligible for consideration if they: 1) are an African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American, 2) are a citizen/legal permanent resident of the U.S., 3) Have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted), 4) will be enrolling for the first time at a U.S. accredited college or university as a full time, degree seeking student in the Fall of 2007, 5) have demonstrated leadership abilities through community service, extracurricular, or other activities, 6) meet the federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria, 7) have all three required form completed and submitted by the deadline (nominee personal information form, nominator form, and recommender form). Boston University announces the 35th annual Trustee Scholarship competition for a four-year, full tuition scholarship to BU .  Deadline:

The Wiregrass Chapter of the American Society of Military Comptrollers is again pleased to offer scholarship opportunities to area high school seniors. This year, our chapter will award one scholarship valued at $1,000 to a student planning to major in the financial or business fields. The Enlisted Spouses Organization of Ft. Rucker Scholarship Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Applicants must be a dependent of an enlisted sponsor, E-1 thru E-9. The Enlisted Sponsor may be active duty, retired, deceased, or on full time active duty within the Reserves or National Guard. Complete details are outlined in the application. DEADLINE:


The Zonta International: Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship is available for young women interested in pursuing a career in government, public affairs, politics, or community organizations. Applicants must show evidence of active commitment to volunteerism and leadership in volunteer activities. The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity is offering the W.R. Greenfield Memorial Scholarship to African American males. This $500 scholarship is from the local Kappa Beta Beta Chapter. Applications can be found in the Guidance Office. DEADLINE:


The Kids' Chance Scholarship Fund was established by the Workers' Compensation Section of the Alabama Bar in 1992. This scholarship program provides scholarships to colleges and technical schools for children who have had a parent killed or permanently and totally disabled in an on-the-job accident. The KFC Colonel's Scholar's Program was created in 2006 and is dedicated to assisting students with financial need who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at a public institution within their legal state of residence.  Students complete their application online at http://www.kfcscholars.org/.  The online application will be available from December 1, 2011 - February 8, 2012.  DEADLINE:

The American Advertising Federation is happy to announce that for the 2010-2011 school year we will be awarding two student scholarships int he amount of $3,000 each.  To qualify, students should be pursuing careers in the fields of Marketing, Advertising, Journalism, Public Relations, or Graphic Design.  Applications available in the guidance office.  DEADLINE:


The Southeast Alabama Community Foundation is offering the Ronnie Mendheim Memorial Scholarship and the Adam Gay Scholarships.  To apply visit www.sacfinfo.org and click the Scholarships tab.


The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship opportunities are now available.  Apply now at : https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/. The requirements for the NROTC are a combined ACT score on the Math and English of a 49, SAT of a 1149.  For more information see your guidance counselor.

SJ Brady STOP Hunger Scholarships- $ 5,000 (Deadline: Dec. 5, 2011). To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
1. Applications for Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarships are accepted from October 5- Decemeber 5, 2011.
2. Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarships are open to ALL students in high school that are enrolled in an accredited educational institution in the US.
 

NHS Scholarship Program- $ 10,000 (Deadline: January 20, 2012).  To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
1. The nomination process for the 2012 NHS Scholarship Program opens on October 1, 2011.  The deadline for online nominations is January 20, 2012.
2. Students who are seniors in good standing are eligible to be nominated by their chapters to compete in the NHS Scholarship Program.

 
Davidson Fellows Scholarships- $ 50,000 (Deadline: February 1, 2012)
The Davidson Fellows Scholarship award $ 50,000, $ 25,000, and $ 10,000. To be eligible for the Davidson Fellows scholarship, an applicant must: Be 18 or younger as of October 4, and must be a US Citizen residing in the US, or a Permanent Resident of the United States residing in the United States, or be stationed overseas due to active US military duty.
 

The Grand Scholarship- $ 10,000 (Deadline: March 1, 2012). To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
1. Participants are judged based on their initial application, on-site debates and participation during the week. Multiple students receive scholarships in the first round and the total number of students selected dictates how much each student will receive.

 
Odenza Marketing Scholarship- $ 500 (Deadline: March 30, 2012). To be considered eligible for the Odenza Marketing Scholarship you must:
1. Be between the ages of 16 and 25 on March 30, 2012
2. Submit answers to the essay questions, which can be found on the application page, prior to the March 30, 2012 deadline.

 
Vancouver Restaurant Scholarship- $ 500 (Deadline: May 30, 2012). To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
1. Be between the ages of 15-21, as of the May 30, 2012 deadline.
2. Be a full time student in 2012 in either High School or College/ University.
3. Answer the essay question found on the application page

 
Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship- $ 5000 (Deadline: May 30, 2012).  To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
1. As of May 30, 2012 deadline, be under 25 years of age
2. Be currently a senior in high school or in your first year of university or college

 
Big Dig Scholarship- $ 3,000 (Deadline: June 1, 2012). To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
1. You must be currently in Grade 12 and entering into your first year of college/ university in 2012 or be currently in your first of second year
2. Submit an essay that is under 1000 words by the stated deadline

 
Man Mac Automatic Scholarship- $ 500 (Deadline: June 15, 2012). To be considered eligible for the Man Mac Automatic Transmission Scholarship a student must meet the following criteria:
1. Be enrolled or expect to be enrolled in an undergraduate program by the Fall of 2012.  The school you attend must be located within Canada or the United States.

 
BBG Communications Scholarhip- $ 1000 (Deadline: June 30, 2012). To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
1. Be between the ages of 16 and 21 on June 30, 2012
Submit answers to the 2 essay questions, which can be found on the application page, prior to the June 30, 2012 deadline.
