Dothan Technology Center Students Build Showers of Blessings
The Showers of Blessings project was a collaborative effort across different concentrations at Dothan Technology. Students from programs like Building Construction, Graphic Arts, Welding, Engineering, and Education and Training came together to partner with Grandview Baptist Church and The Harbor to create a place that will serve the homeless community by providing more showers for more people in less time.

Dothan City Board of Education Approves Revised Dress Code Policy
Dothan City Board of Education recently approved to revise the Dothan City Schools Dress Code Policy. Beginning January 5, 2021, students will be allowed to wear jeans as long as they are deemed appropriate by the administration.

Kelly Springs Students Place Third in South Region in 2020 Alabama Stock Market Game
Kelly Springs Elementary School who recently placed Third Overall in the South Division of the Alabama Stock Market Game (SMG). Kelly Springs had 13 teams who participated and two of those teams placed in the Top 5.

Area leaders tour Wallace-Dothan facilities
Leaders from around the Wiregrass stopped by Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) on Tuesday, December 1, to tour the facilities and learn more about what the College has to offer students. The structure behind the group is a welding simulator, designed and constructed by the welding program, to simulate the workplace environment for future welders.

Dothan City Schools Central Office Secretary named CLAS District 2 Secretary of the Year
The Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) recently awarded Dothan City School Central Office Secretary, Kimberly McNeally as the 2020 Secretary of the Year for District 2 in the state of Alabama. Mrs. McNeally is one of eight district winners from across the state of Alabama.

Name and Art Contest Winners Named for Dothan City Schools’ Child Nutrition Program Summer Food Bus
This past summer, Dothan City Schools Child Nutrition Program (CNP) debuted the launch of its pilot Summer Food Bus program through a generous partnership with Wiregrass Foundation. Through this program, Dothan CNP was able to hit the streets of Dothan to provide meals to children across the Wiregrass.

As a conclusion to a month-long Bullying Prevention Campaign, DTC students are proud to create and share their posters with their fellow students Dothan Tech students showcased their skills working shifts to complete a 30 poster project for Dothan City Schools (DCS).

Dothan Tech students completing shower trailer for the homeless community
A shower trailer for those living a homeless lifestyle has always been abwish of The Harbor Ministry. “However the price tag of brand new just buy it off rack trailer is considerable,” says The Harbor’s executive director Kody Kirchoff. They partnered with Grandview Baptist Church in 2018 but Hurricane Michael and the pandemic caused the project to fall behind.

The Boy Scouts of America community service project is the last hurdle for many members before they earn the eagle scout rank. Javier Cepero has been a member of the Boy Scouts of America for as far back as he can remember.

Dothan High School Students Recognized for Passing AP Exams
117 Dothan High School students were recognized for their achievement in A+ College Ready supported AP (Advanced Placement) courses and their passing scores on their exams, earning them possible college credit. The AP program at DHS offers college-level courses in Language Arts, Literature, US History, Statistics, Calculus, Government/Econ, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Sciences, and Physics.

Dothan City Schools To Hold Trial Virtual Day for Dothan Preparatory Academy and Dothan High School Students
In light of the statewide increase of staffing issues, coupled with existing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and the upcoming influenza season, Dothan City Schools (DCS) plans to hold a Trial Virtual Day for all Dothan Preparatory Academy and Dothan High School students on Friday, October 30. This day will allow DCS an opportunity to proactively identify areas of improvement to better ensure the most effective learning environment for our students in case of forced closures in the future.

Dothan City Schools Participate in Anti-Bullying Month
October is considered a spooky month and Dothan City Schools is scaring away bullying. It all starts with wearing orange, an orange t-shirt, socks, or even a mask. Dothan City Schools were covered in orange and for good reason, to prevent bullying and promote kindness.

Dothan City Schools Board Meeting Summary
According to the State of Alabama, Proclamation by the Governor dated March 28, 2020:
"No less than twelve hours following the conclusion of a meeting conducted pursuant to this section, a governmental body shall post a summary of the meeting in a prominent location on its website – or, if it has no website, in any other location or using any other method designed to provide reasonable notice to the public. The summary shall recount the deliberations conducted and the actions taken with reasonable specificity to allow the public to understand what happened."

January 2021 MeetingsDue to the COVID-19 public health concern, the Dothan City Board of Education will hold their Board Meetings through ZOOM Webinar as well as limited capacity public viewing at the Dothan City Board of Education, Board Room, 1665 Honeysuckle Road, Suite 1.
Per ADPH Risk Indicators, the Dothan City Board of Education meetings will adhere to the following capacity limitations for in-person numbers at the board meeting while observing social distancing and wearing masks: Green - Low Risk - Groups of 90 or fewer pertaining to the Board Room; Yellow - Moderate Risk - Groups of 50 or fewer; Orange - High Risk - limited to 20 outside visitors by appointment only; and Red - Very High Risk - no outside visitors allowed in the building. Participants may still view the meeting via ZOOM webinar. Those who have made prior notification to participate on the agenda will remain on the in-person agenda.
Board Meetings will be held in this manner until further notice.

As a reminder, Governor Ivey has temporarily suspended some of the provisions of the Open Meetings Act government bodies authority to meet electronically. Boards can meet by teleconference or video-conference in order to do business and comply with social distancing recommendations at the same time.
