Each year, Dothan City Schools will determine the number of slots available at their schools.

For the 2022-2023 School Year, the following schools have slots available:
- Jerry Lee Faine Elementary - 3 Slots
- Girard Intermediate -
- 4th Grade - 3 Slots
- 5th Grade - 3 Slots
- 6th Grade - 2 Slots
- If needed, a lottery will take place on May 19, 2022, at 8:00 AM
- Heard Elementary - 20 Slots
- If needed, a lottery will take place on May 19, 2022, at 1:00 PM
- Kelly Springs Elementary - 10 Slots
- Morris Slingluff Elementary - 10 Slots
- If needed, a lottery will take place on May 16, 2022, at 9:00 AM
The following schools are closed to school choice due to full capacity:
- Beverlye Intermediate
- Girard Primary
- Hidden Lake Primary
- Highlands Elementary
- Selma Street Elementary

Each school will advertise (by social media, website, and/or letters/flyers):
- The dates of the opening and the closing of the application period:
- May 2, 2022 - May 13, 2022.
- The number of slots available.
- State the overall number available.
- No matter what grade level of the student that is drawn the school will have to accept.
- Where the applications can be obtained and submitted.
- The date a lottery will be held, if required. Parents may attend.
- Lotteries should be held the week of May 16th – May 20th. Please notify Public Information Officer by April 29 of the date and time of your lottery so she can help advertise. Once all numbers are submitted they should be sent to Public Information Officer as well.
- For example, if the lottery was required: If there are only 10 slots and 15 applications, then a lottery will be held to seat the students.
- If there is only 10 slots and only 10 applications then no lottery is necessary.
- Advertise if the lottery is canceled.
- Siblings will be counted in the lottery draw keeping families together.
- All applicants must be placed in the lottery and all applicants must be drawn. Even if you are past your allowed number of seats during the lottery you will continue drawing to create the waiting list and the order in which the names will be placed on the waiting list.
- Transportation will not be provided.
Once the slots have been filled:
- On the day of your lottery, the acceptance list and waiting list need to be submitted to Scott Faulk no later than May 24th A document will be created so Principals can see if duplicates are being drawn.
- A letter will be sent to parents/legal guardians letting them know if their child was selected or
- An acceptance list will be sent to each home base school notifying them of the students that will be transferring by School Student records will then be forwarded to each student's new school.

Hardship: 6.2.1 Transfers
Due to the implementation of School Choice, there will be limited opportunity for movement between schools. Hardship Requests may be submitted. The Director of Auxiliary Services will review student attendance, behavior and academic history and will have the discretion to approve or deny. The Director of Auxiliary Services will consult the Principal of each school before making a decision. All decisions are final.
