Dothan City Schools offers Pre-Kindergarten for students ages three to five at two campus locations.
Dothan City Early Education Center registration OPENS January 15 (Ends February 28).
Dothan City & Houston County Head Start Center registration OPENS on February 7.
Children must be age 3 to 5 on or by September 1st and reside in Dothan City Schools Zone to attend Pre-Kindergarten.
Dothan City Early Education Center: Children zoned for Dothan City Schools who are four on or before September 1, are eligible to apply. Dothan City Early Education Center is a state and federally funded enrollment is limited. Dothan City Early Education Center offers Alabama’s nationally recognized First Class Pre-K program.
In addition to the traditional First Class Pre-K program, Dothan City Early Education Center also offers Bridge Builders: Integrated Pre-K. Serving students with Disabilities and Typical Peers. Children who are either three or four (and not yet five) before September 1, are eligible to apply. Students applying for Bridge Builders must meet screening and eligibility requirements.
A random drawing for both programs at DCEEC will be held on March 1, 2023. Parents will be notified regarding drawing results and next steps.

Dothan City & Houston County Head Start Center: Children zoned for Dothan City Schools who are between three to five years of age on or before September 1, are eligible to apply. Dothan City & Houston County Head Start Center is a federally funded program based on income. Dothan City & Houston County Head Start Center provides services to Dothan City Schools as well as Houston County Schools with site locations in Webb, Cottonwood, Ashford, and Rehobeth. Limited slots are available for both Dothan City & Houston County schools. Acceptance letters are mailed to families in June for the upcoming school year.
Specific collaborative and planned actions are in place to recruit eligible children, including children with disabilities. Comprehensive services to such children are provided in collaboration with the local education agency and the Alabama Early Intervention System.
Children who are from families with incomes below the poverty guidelines are eligible for Head Start services. Children from homeless families and families receiving public assistance such as TANF or SSI are also eligible. Foster children are eligible regardless of their foster family’s income.
