Exceptional Student Services

The purpose of the Department of Exceptional Student Services is to provide specialized instructional services, related services, and supplementary aids and services to students suspected of or identified as having disabilities. In compliance with state and federal regulations, these disabilities adversely affect educational performance and result in a need for special education and related services.

Child Find

Child Find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that requires states to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities, aged birth to 21, who are in need of early intervention or special education services. Child Find is a continuous process of public awareness activities, screening, and evaluation designed to locate, identify, and refer as early as possible all children with disabilities. Dothan City Schools is active in this process and encourages your participation. Please contact Dothan City Schools, Department of Exceptional Student Services, 1665 Honeysuckle Road, Dothan, AL 36305, (334) 793-1397, extension 236242.
