    Clubs

Based on children’s interests, teacher talents, and funding, children will have the opportunity to participate in clubs designed to build on their knowledge and extend their learning. Teachers may also design clubs that may share their own interest or talent to introduce children to new skills and topics. Some examples of cubs would be:

    • Chess Club-This club will consist of beginners to those who understand and play the game well.  The skill of strategic thinking will be cultivated while students also develop competition skills.
    • Archery Club- This club will consist of those who have never shot a bow to those who may want to compete with each other.  Hand-eye coordination as well as prepping items for use will be skills taught in this club.
    • Art Club- This club will vary from time to time depending on the type of art being taught.  The purpose of this club is to allow children to explore different art mediums.
    • Technology Club-This club will introduce different types of technologies and their uses.  Students will be given tasks to complete which will enable them to learn new skills and strengthen previously learned skills while also developing new ways to use both old and new technologies.
    • Gardening Club- Students will be taught how to plant, maintain, and harvest different types of flowers, fruits, and vegetables.

    STEM / Robotics

Carver MST will offer three choices of STEM for it’s Extended Day program.

    • Game Design and Modeling -Students will  expand their imagination and apply the engineering model to build worlds, program games, and eventually use their skills to draft a three-part-narrative and adapt that narrative into a story driven video game. Student’s can use the free KODU software or purchase a $2.00 pack that will give them lifetime educational support.
    • Robotics and Automation -Students will be able to independently use their learning to evaluate a problem in a new and novel situation, apply a step by step design process to solve a problem, and apply scientific ideas to address human needs and wants. By addressing the needs and wants of customers, they learn how to adapt skills to business models in order to compete in the global economy.
    • Robotics and Automation Competition -In the VEX Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test as students learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications, and more. Tournaments are held year-round at the regional, state, and national levels and culminate at the VEX Robotics World Championship each April!
