Superintendent's Student Advisory Council
Dothan City Board of Education believes it is important to seek out and consider students’ ideas, viewpoints, and reactions to the District’s educational program. To provide student input and involvement, the Board of Education Meeting shall include a Superintendent Student Advisory Council (SSAC) delegation who will be selected following an application and interview process.
The council will be open to all interested DCS students Grades 5 and above. All students within these grade levels are encouraged to complete the enclosed application form and return to their school principal.
Eligibility: Any student who is a Dothan City School student in Grades 5 and above and in good standing may apply. The SSAC shall be made up of 18 delegates from the following representatives per school.

- Beverlye Intermediate School
- Girard Elementary School
- Dothan 6th Grade Center
- Carver School for Math, Science and Technology
Two Representatives Per
- Carver 9th Grade Academy
- Dothan High School
- Dothan Preparatory Academy
- Dothan City Virtual School
Term of office: The SSAC member will serve during the School Year.
Commitment: The SSAC Member (1) attends quarterly / meetings of the Dothan City Board of Education and SSAC meetings one week prior; (2) gives sufficient time to study the issues coming before the school board; (3) serves as the student voice for the school district; and (4) serves on the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council.
Initial Screening: Immediately after the internal school application deadline, all applications received will be reviewed and invited to interview at base school by the Principal’s Committee.
Appointment: Principals of each school will submit their recommendations for SSAC appointment to the Public Information Officer.
All applicants will be thanked for applying and will receive notice of the final selection prior to the Board meeting.
