DOTHAN, AL – Dothan City Schools is thrilled to announce that the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce has recognized Aubrie McClenney, the 3rd-6th grade science lab teacher at the Carver School for Mathematics, Science, and Technology, as the May Super Star Teacher of the Month. This prestigious award celebrates teachers who exemplify excellence in leadership, creativity, and imagination, while remaining academically and culturally motivated, and civically minded within the community.

Chris Payne, Principal at Carver MST, expressed his admiration for Mrs. McClenney's dedication and innovation in education: "Mrs. McClenney has taken the initiative to create and sustain an active research garden and habitat at our school. Her efforts have allowed us to hatch and raise chickens, plant and rotate various crops, develop a butterfly garden, and establish thriving beehives.”

Beyond her regular teaching duties, Mrs. McClenney is committed to enhancing her skills, having earned a beekeeper certificate at Landmark Park in Dothan. Her passion for environmental science has driven her to secure numerous grants, significantly improving the outdoor garden and learning environment for her students. Under her leadership, the school has proudly earned certification from the National Wildlife Federation for a Schoolyard Habitat.

“Dothan City Schools appreciates the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, MidSouth Bank, and Southeast Gas for recognizing Mrs. McClenney as the Super Star Teacher for May,” said Dr. Dennis Coe, Dothan City Schools Superintendent. “Her dedication to inspiring young minds in the realm of science is unparalleled. Her innovative teaching methods have not only enriched our students' learning experiences but have also ignited a lifelong love for discovery and curiosity. She is an example of the many outstanding teachers in this school district who work hard every day so that our students succeed.”

Mrs. McClenney was awarded $100 in school supplies for her classroom, a balloon bouquet, a Super Star teacher sign for her classroom door, a restaurant gift card, and featured on the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce's Facebook page.
