District's School Resource Officers Recognized
DOTHAN, Ala. – Through the district’s continued partnership with the Dothan Police Department, the administration at Dothan City Schools honors a group of certified School Resource Officers ahead of Saturday’s National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day.
February 15 is a day set aside every year for schools and communities to recognize the work these individuals do. These SROs work in lockstep with Dothan City Schools - not only to keep our schools safe - but to help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the city’s youth.
Lt. Jeremy Kendrick and three sergeants command the group of SROs and Reserve Police Officers from DPD’s Community Services Division. The school district wishes to recognize the following SROs:
These sworn law enforcement officers serve as the first line of defense in keeping students and staff safe from potential internal and external threats. As part of their mission, these School Resource Officers also provide mentoring while encouraging positive behavior of students in and outside of the classroom.
“The symbiotic relationship between Dothan City Schools and Dothan Police Department is solid,” said Dr. Dennis Coe, DCS Superintendent. “This partnership allows us to have certified officers at our schools, giving peace of mind to the school community. On behalf of our students, staff, and administration, we express our heartfelt appreciation to all of our School Resource Officers who do such an amazing job.”
The visibility of these SROs is at the forefront of the safety mindset at DCS, reassuring students, parents, and staff that Dothan City Schools makes safety and security its top priority.
In 2022, the National Association of School Resource Officers established February 15 as National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day. The day recognizes the valuable and essential roles School Resource Officers play in the education community, encouraging the public to show appreciation to these school-based law enforcement officers.
