DOTHAN, Ala. - The Dothan City Board of Education named Lee Jacobs as Acting Superintendent Tuesday evening. The decision was made during the Regular Board Meeting, as the board continues its search for a permanent replacement for Dr. Dennis Coe, who is retiring.

Lee Jacobs, who has been a pivotal figure in the Division of Accountability and Compliance as the Assistant Superintendent, will temporarily assume the role of Acting Superintendent. Her appointment comes at a critical time, ensuring that the district maintains its momentum in educational excellence and accountability.

Jacobs is a product of Dothan City Schools, boasting 21 years of experience within the district. Her extensive background in educational leadership equips her with a clear vision for student success, which she seeks to achieve through collaboration with staff, students, and the broader community. Additionally, her personal connection to the district is strengthened by one of her children who graduated from Dothan High School in 2024, while her other child is set to attend DHS this fall.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as Acting Superintendent,” said Jacobs. “My focus will be on sustaining and enhancing the quality educational opportunities for all students in our district while supporting our dedicated staff during this period of change.”

The board’s selection of Jacobs reflects their confidence in her ability to lead and maintain the district’s standards. Her leadership will ensure that the strategic goals and educational priorities of the Dothan City Schools continue to be met effectively.

As the search for a permanent superintendent moves forward, the Board of Education is committed to a thorough and inclusive process, ensuring that the best candidate is selected to lead the district into the future.
