DOTHAN, Ala. –  On Monday, Feb.17, Dothan City Schools hosted a training session with TEAMS (Teacher Excellence and Accountability for Mathematics and Science) teachers as part of the Alabama Department of Education’s innovative program to improve math and science teaching across the state. The Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI) provides training for public school teachers. The TEAMS training took place inside two of the four multi-purpose training rooms on Dothan City Schools’ central office campus and involved over 30 TEAMS teachers.

An AMSTI Math trainer led the group, providing teachers with new learning techniques and materials through a hands-on learning approach. The training provides teachers support while upholding the standards in the ALSDE’s Alabama Course of Study: Mathematics in hopes of improving student growth and achievement.

Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative trainers were at Dothan City Schools Monday for TEAMS training.

In addition, an AMSTI Science trainer focused on hands-on learning while providing resources that align with the Alabama Course of Study Standards. Through various resources, the training promoted conceptual learning that teachers can use in respective grade levels and per core area.  An aim of AMSTI Science is to also limit learners’ screen time.

Dothan City Schools’ Human Resources Department orchestrated AMSTI trainers coming to Dothan for the training. Monday’s session marked the second time DCS has played host to TEAMS training. This year, DCS partnered with Enterprise City Schools. By participating, TEAMS teachers obtain professional learning credit for their TEAMS contract.
