Dothan City Schools proudly announced the presentation of the Seal of Biliteracy, a nationally acclaimed recognition, celebrating eight Dothan High School graduates who have shown proficiency in English and at least one other world language, including American Sign Language. The honored students will be presented with a special commendation from the Dothan City Board of Education at the May meeting, including a medal to be worn during graduation.
Students to be recognized are Andrea Briseno, Ximena Antonio Dominguez, Jessie Gonzalez, Kamila Gonzalez Torres, Veronica Gordillo, Josue Jasso, Marta Nicolas Gaspar and Yanderi Urrea.
“We are thrilled to celebrate the remarkable achievement of these eight seniors who have demonstrated outstanding proficiency in two languages. These students are trailblazers for Dothan City and are leading the way into our 21st century multicultural, multilingual world,” says Sarahann Odom, Dothan City Schools English Language Learner Coordinator.
Achieving the Seal of Biliteracy reflects the students' dedication, perseverance, and the guidance of our committed educators. Through the implementation of this recognition, Dothan City Schools is committed to cultivating marketable 21st Century skills and global competence in our students by celebrating the diversity represented by the languages spoken in our district. Dothan City Schools aims to empower students for success in the world marketplace, by creating an innovative environment of global languages and cultures that inspire, encourage, and provide opportunities for the community as a whole. Encouraging students to study multiple languages helps them not only in their educational journey but also prepares them to step into the global workforce.
