DOTHAN, Ala. – Students were bursting with excitement Friday morning at the unveiling and ribbon-cutting for the long-awaited new playground at Jerry Lee Faine Elementary School. The overnight rain showers departed just in time for the sun to shine brightly upon the new features on campus! The playground project has been in the works since last school year. Today, school leaders, teachers and staff were overjoyed to see the playground come to fruition for their students.

Students gathered around the new, colorful playground area, waiting patiently for a chance to test out the new equipment. Principal Tina Garst, with a megaphone in hand, proudly announced the opening of the playground that now has separate areas for the enjoyment of students. The playground comes alive with vibrant red and yellow colors - a perfect complement to the school.

“It’s an opportunity for our students to have new equipment as they participate in physical activity with their classmates at Jerry Lee Faine Elementary,” Dr. Dennis Coe, Superintendent of Dothan City Schools said. “The new addition sparks a mindset in our students that our schools are fun and educational, and we are happy to be able to provide a safe, new playground at the school.”

Mrs. Garst and other teachers explained that the students have been anticipating the opening of the playground for weeks as they saw construction ongoing on campus recently. After the ribbons were cut on both sections of the playground, it did not take long for students to try out the new attractions.

Dothan City Schools is proud to see the new play area for students at Jerry Lee Faine Elementary School knowing that students will enjoy the addition to our school community for years to come.
