DOTHAN, Ala. – Students in Grades six and higher from several Dothan City Schools were proud to represent the school district in this year’s Greater East Alabama Regional Science & Engineering Fair. Students’ projects were judged at the event which took place at Auburn University at Montgomery on Friday, March 14, 2025. For the first time, fourth and fifth grade students were also invited to participate in the regional science fair.

Students competed in the junior and senior divisions with categories including Animal and Plant Sciences; Behavioral & Social Sciences; Biomedical Engineering & Biomedical and Health Science; Cell Molecular, Microbiology & Biochemistry; Chemistry; Computational and Bioinformatics Sciences; Earth and Environmental Sciences & Environmental Engineering; Energy; Engineering; Physics, Astronomy & Mathematics; and Robotic Systems & Communication Technology.

Of the 38 projects that advanced from the district competition, fourteen projects won in their respective categories, setting a new record for Dothan City Schools!  Twenty-five DCS students worked on those winning projects.

“Many students in our district have taken a keen interest in STEM education. And, that’s because of the science and math teachers across the district. These teachers have created a love of learning and instilled a curiosity in our students,” explained Dr. Dennis Coe, Dothan City Schools Superintendent. “These fairs help our students see the fun and excitement of scientific thinking, critical thinking, researching, and problem-solving in areas of science, math, engineering, and technology. We had a record number of students participating at the regional level this year. We are so proud of these winners and their accomplishments.”
