Outstanding Girl Delegate Outstanding Boy Delegate Arsheyra Borders Jacob Pearce
A select group of Honeysuckle Middle School students earned honors as they competed in the Southeast Alabama Model United Nations Assembly (SAMUN) on March 7-8 at Troy University. HMS students were among the more than 100 middle school students from five area schools that gained a new awareness of the world and international affairs through this annual event.
Participants experienced the United Nations first-hand with each delegation representing a different nation and deciding important issues that affect the world. HMS teams represented the nations of Yemen and South Sudan.
Twelve teams participated in the Model United Nations this year. Delegations dressed in native costumes from the country they represent, constructed a replica of the country’s flag, presented a 30-second welcome in the country’s native language and prepared a resolution relating to the current issues and concerns for their country.
In addition to HMS, teams came from Brewton Middle School, Carver Magnet School, Beverlye Magnet School, and Houston Academy to participate in this year’s assembly.
