LEA Consolidated Plan

The purpose of the LEA Consolidated Plan is to ensure that all children receive high-quality education and to close the achievement gap between children meeting the challenging State Academic Standards and those children who are not meeting such standards. A copy of this plan has been attached; however, a short overview of the plan is below. The plan describes how DCS will: Monitor students' progress in meeting State Academic Standards Address any disparities that result in low-income and minority students being taught at higher rates than other students by ineffective, inexperienced, or out-of-field teachers. Carry out its responsibilities for school support and improvement activities for Schools identified as Comprehensive Support and Targeted Support Schools Describe the poverty criteria that will be used to select school attendance areas Describe the nature of the programs conducted by DCS for school-wide targeted assistance schools Provide services to homeless children and youth to support enrollment, attendance, and success in coordination with the services DCS is providing under the McKinney Vento Act Support, coordinate and integrate services for early childhood education Implement strategies to facilitate effective transitions for students from middle grades to high school and from high school to postsecondary education through coordination with institutions of higher education, employers, and other local partners Support efforts to reduce the overuse of discipline practices that remove students from the classroom Support programs that coordinate and integrate academic and career and technical education and work-based learning opportunities Assist schools in identifying and serving gifted and talented students Assist in developing effective school library programs Implement effective parent and family engagement Involve parents and family members in jointly developing the Parent Engagement Plan
