Dothan City Schools Celebrates Public Schools Week 2020

DCS Public Schools Week 2020

Dothan City Schools celebrated Public Schools Week on February 24 - 28, 2020.  Public Schools Week is a national celebration to highlight the great things happening in our nation’s public schools as well as bring attention to the critical issues facing our schools, students, and educators. This initiative shows the strength and potential of public schools in a democratic society.

The week included a visit from State Superintendent, Dr. Eric Mackey. During his visit, Dr. Mackey had an opportunity to visit the young learners at Dothan City Early Education Center

After his visit with DCEEC, Dr. Mackey visited our career technical classes at Dothan Technology Center, where he even participated in safety exercises with our building construction students. Dr. Mackey’s tour concluded with a visit to Dothan High School, where he was greeted by our students and the Dothan High School show choir.

Also during the week, Dothan City Schools had the pleasure of hosting community and city leaders as they had an opportunity to tour a few Dothan City Schools. During the tour, the leaders were able to take a look inside the classrooms of our students ranging in our 4-year-old learners at the Dothan City Early Education Center to our AP Biology students at Dothan High School.

"I appreciated the vision that Dr. Edwards has for our students and the high standards she has set for our community. It was obvious there is still work to be done, but I have no doubt that what we saw on the tour is the first step in competing with school systems across the nation."

- Dana-Maria Lemmer, Wiregrass Museum of Art Director

"DCS is definitely on its way to becoming one of the best education systems in the state of Alabama! Thank you, Dr. Edwards, for your vision and the hard work you and your team are doing to make the vision a reality."
