FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dothan City Schools Releases 2021-2022 In-Person ReOpening Plan

DOTHAN, Ala. – After a thorough review and consideration of the points offered by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), Alabama’s Passport Law, the Alabama Association of School Boards, and the School Superintendents of Alabama, the Dothan City Schools will adhere to the plan below in reopening schools for the 2021-22 school year. The Dothan City Schools will establish the following key beliefs regarding the current COVID situation for schools:

  • Students benefit from in-person learning, and safely returning to in-person instruction is a priority.
  • Vaccination is currently the leading public health prevention strategy to end the COVID-19 pandemic. Promoting vaccination can help us safely return to in-person learning as well as extracurricular activities and sports.
  • Students and staff should stay home when sick to keep others safe.

The Dothan City Schools will strongly encourage masks to be worn indoors by all not fully vaccinated individuals. Dothan City Schools will require the use of masks while on school buses per Federal Department of Transportation regulations. Dothan City Schools will implement the following layered protections for students and staff: cleaning guidelines as established by the CDC, promoting handwashing and respiratory etiquette, and the quarantining of infected and exposed individuals. Dothan City Schools also provides upgraded HVAC systems/Air Purifiers for large capacity areas, including the infusion of fresh air, bipolar ionization of existing air, and UV filtering.

Students in grades 7-12 have the option of enrolling in the Dothan City Virtual School, and students in grades K-6 may have access to virtual programs based on individual needs. Detailed information on virtual options is available at this link.

The Dothan City Schools remains committed to providing our staff and students with the safest environment possible.
