Notice of Destruction of Special Education Records

July 19, 2023

Special Education records that have been collected by the Dothan City Schools School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of Special Education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for a period up until the student has reached the age of 25.  Notice of destruction of these records is provided annually via public advertisement. Destruction will proceed where parents or eligible students have not requested copies by September 1 of the year in writing or in person at the following address:

Although the records are no longer useful to the district, they may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for Social Security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc.
